AMX International is a joint venture between Italian Alenia and Aermacchi, and Brazilian Embraer, founded in 1981 to produce light strike aircraft for air forces of both coutries. The first prototype flew on May 15, 1984, and soon was lost, killing the pilot.
The first examples were delivered to the Italian and Brazilian air forces in 1989. Since then, about 200 AMXs have been built. Italian AMX aircraft were used in 1999 in combat over Kosovo. In the Brazilian Air Force it is designated the A-1.
It seems unbelieveable that there is still no decent injected kit of this neat aircraft ( shame on you, Italeri!).
This one here is twenty years old resin kit from WarriorModel (http://warriormodel.prv.pl/ ). This kit has many pros, and little bit improved and better moulded, still would drive everyones attention. Major fault are too short, and made from too soft metal main undercarriage legs. I needed to made new from scratch, using injection needles. From the manufacturers mail I know, that today kit is improved, with better metal for undercarriage legs used, and new parts added, such as ejection seat, fuel probe, bombs, etc. I hope this kit is now better moulded, because I fought with zillions of pinholes.
On the other hand fit is quite good, and kit has many very subtle details.
Decals are for both versions: Italian and Brazilian, well printed, and went on very well. Some of decals I made myself, because I wanted to picture different machine. Using decals for Brazilian Air Force, one must remember the difference in armament. Italian aircraft has one 20 mm M61 Vulcan cannon, but Brazilian has two 30 mm DEFA 544 cannons. Unfortunately kit depicts only Italian variant, and correction depends on the modeller.
It is certainly not a Chinese “easy kit”, but it is now really only option, both in 1:72 and 1:48 scale.
