Douglas C-118 Liftmaster
by Tadeu Pinto Mendes
Heller's 1/72 scale DC-6B is available online from Squadron
The Douglas DC-6 was one of the most popular commercial aircraft of its day. Several air forces used the DC-6, including the Brazilian Air Force which used five that came from VARIG. These planes were DC-6B that were used between 1970 and 75. In Brazilian service they had the same designation as the USAF - C-118.
This is the good 1/72 scale model from Heller. However, you need to put weight in the nose.

This model first came in service with SAS, which chose to make the Brazilian Air Force with decal produced in Brazil. The DC-6B had used two types of finishes, both equivalent to USAF schemes. I chose the second - White - FS 17875 on top of the fuselage and Light gray - FS 16622 on the bottom. Wings and horizontal estabilizers in Aluminum - FS 17178. Rudder in Green - FS 14062 and Yellow - FS 13538. The lines on the fuselage, top of nose and radome in Black - FS 37038.
