Maestro Models has produced another resin upgrade for the Heller JA37 Viggen in 1/72 scale, this time releasing an Oerlikon cannon pack as fitted to the underside of this interceptor / fighter version of the Model 37 Viggen family.
Maestro’s offering is a big improvement over the three kit parts, being more detailed by a large margin, having a more accurate shape and better definition of the pack’s outlines. Reference photos confirm these impressions. An added bonus is that the cannon pack comes in one piece, not three! It can be separated from the base with minimal fuss and will only require a few passes with file or coarse sandpaper to remove the pour stubs and be ready for use. The instructions note this small amount of work in their directions and provide some background to the weapon’s development by Oerlikon. It was certainly an impressive piece of aerial firepower, the 30mm cartridge used in the cannon being one of the most powerful used in an aircraft.
This is a straightforward resin upgrade for the 1/72 JA37 Viggen and requires little modelling skill to achieve an enhanced model.
