Pavla is well known for their extensive range of resin seats, detail and conversion sets, vac-from canopies (although they seem to have stopped producing a fairly large range of limited run styrene aircraft kits). They have adopted a sensible and welcome approach to aircraft accessories by frequently offering different degrees of enhancement for the same kit. However in this case the cockpit set is offered without a replacement vac-from canopy (which is a pity), and Pavla do not offer a canopy separately either (also a pity).
This set is intended to compliment the Trumpeter kit of the Sukhoi Su-15UM. All of the resin is cast to high standards, with some very fine detail evident Clear instructions with paint call-outs area welcome feature of Pavla cockpit sets. The photos in many ways serve best to review accessory parts, but a few two things worth mentioning are seats and the replacement cockpit decking covering the two cockpits. This is a direct replacement for the kit part, but includes some good detail that will be some of the most noticeable derived from this set, as I’m not sure how much will be clearly visible through the kit canopy..
The Su-15UM cockpits are cramped affairs, and the Trumpeter kit canopies are fairly run of the mill. So without a vac-from canopy you may not get to see a great deal. However many modellers understandably will want to improve on the kit cockpits regardless. So I still recommend the set, despite no replacement canopy, for those who want to lift the cockpit detail of their Su-15UM.
Thanks to Pavla Models for the review samples.
