Revell's 1/72 scale F-18E Super Hornet is available online from Squadron

Description

Here is one of my recent builds, Revell's Super Hornet in 1/72 scale.

As usual with Revell in recent times, this is a bargain for the pocket. Excellent level of detail and superb ordnance included in the box.

Opposite to Hasegawa, overpriced always in 1/72, Revell includes in this kit a more than decent detailed cockpit, and great decal sheet with two attractive options, a fantastic ordnance of bombs, missiles and fuel tanks, and an excellent overall detail in panel and rivets (well, to be honest with all of you I am not really a rivet counter, but this kit looks great).

I am getting too lazy in the last months, I wanted to go through a quick and pleasant build, so I decided to present my Super Hornet in an in-flight display and of course... fully loaded!!

The motivator in this project was a decal sheet from Two Bobs, excellent but difficult to apply for the small and delicate parts included. I wanted to have a "Rockin' Rhino" VFA-31 in my collection, and nothing better than this decal sheet for it!

Painting was done as usual: pre-shading with Tamiya Acrylic Flat Black, masking some areas with Tamiya Tape for the next steps in grey, using for this FS 36320 (Hannants Xtracrylix XA1135 Dark Compass Grey) for the upper surfaces and FS36375 (Model Master Acryl Ref. 4762 Light Ghost Gray) for the lower fuselage half. Using my single action airbrush from Paasche, I managed to spray light coats of FS36320 in a way that still in certain areas was possible to see some dark appearance. I was very happy with the final result.

After some coats of Tamiya Clear X-22, decals, and weathering (achieved with a mixture of Humbrol Flat Black and Red Borwn, well diluted in Humbrol thinner as I always do) and finally some light coats of Humbrol Matt, the project was ready for display. Many more pictures are now uploaded in my home site www.webmodelismo.com

I have got Revell"s F-18F in 1/48 for just 22USD recently and I really like what I found in the box. For the price you pay you will never be disappointed with Revell's Super Hornets!
