During WWII the P-51 carried drop tanks to extend its range. In the main, two types of tanks were available in the European theatre, the 75 gallon aluminium one and the 110 gallon paper one. Both types of tank are provided in the Tamiya kit but unfortunately the pair of 110 gallon tanks that Tamiya supplies are not entirely accurate. BarracudaCast have come to the rescue for those wishing to accurately portray their 1/32 scale P-51 carrying the 110 gallon tank by supplying a resin set to upgrade the kit parts.

BR32016 consists of just four resin parts in all. To use them all you need to do is separate the nose and tails of the kit parts at the panel lines scribed in to the kit parts and glue in the resin parts supplied in the kit. Of course this is a simplified view of the process but the task is not all that onerous and will result in a far more accurate drop tank.

The resin parts in my sample are very crisply cast and there are no pin holes or mis-casts in any of the parts. The detail cast into the filling caps are nice and crisp and will stand out once you apply a wash to the painted tank.

Assembly instructions are provided on a small sheet that accompanies the resin parts. It shows colour images of the parts and the assembly process as well as concise written instructions sheet that enable you to complete the job easily and provides you with the advice that you should not over weather the tanks as they were a one-shot only use and were pretty much pristine when they were loaded on the aircraft

The parts come packed in a clear plastic zip-loc bag with a cardboard header.

A simple but effective set from BarracudaCast.
