Eduard has released two significant upgrades for its new family of 1/48 scale Messerschmitt Bf 109 Es.
DB 601A/N Engine
The first is a comprehensively detailed engine and upper cowling. This will be suitable for all variants of the Bf 109 E.
The engine set comprises 25 parts in dark and light grey resin, plus a modest photo-etched fret.
The engine block is beautifully done. Most noticeable is the delicate wiring harness. This is a very obvious feature when the cowl is removed, and Eduard has done a remarkable job of casting these delicate pieces in place on the engine block. Behind each wire is a fine wafer of resin. If you are not keen to risk damaging the fragile resin wiring, you might prefer to leave the waste in place as it will be mainly obscured against the dark engine block.
The rest of the detail is equally finely rendered. Exhaust stacks are included. These are hollowed out at the ends. The reduction gear cover, horseshoe oil reservoir, glycol tanks, interruptor gear housing, supercharger and engine mounts are also supplied as resin parts.
The upper cowl is cast very thin and includes structural detail on the inside.
Bf 109 E MG 17 Mount
If you want to fit out the area aft of the engine to the same outstanding level, Eduard also has you covered.
The title "Bf 109 E MG 17 Mount" actually sells this set short.
The ten resin parts in fact also supply the guns themsleves, blast tubes plus ammunition boxes. The gun cowl is included too.
Similar to the main cowl from the engine set, the resin is gauze-thin, almost see-through, and features structural detail cast on the inside.
Once again, the upgrade parts are superior to the kit's plastic due to the fine, deep detail achievable through modern injection resin casting.
Both the DB 601 engine and the MG 17 mount will be suitable for any of Eduard's 1/48 scale Messerschmitt Bf 109 E kits. The detail and casting is exquisite.
Using both sets together will result in a spectacular Emil.
Highly recommended.
Thanks to Eduard for the samples.
