Hobby Boss' 1/48 scale MIG-17PFU Fresco is available online from Squadron.com
The Mig-17 Fresco is obviously a very close relative to its famous predecessor, the Mig-15.
Developed to create a more stable aircraft in the range of transsonic speed, the wings have been reworked and the fuselage was stretched about a meter. A powerful Klimov WK 1F turbojet with 2629kp thrust was installed into this extended fuselage.
The MIG-17 was widely-used over decades throughout the airforces of the Eastern Block and allied powers.
ainly two Cold –War related conflicts contributed to the reputation of the Fresco: the MIG-17 proved herself over the skies of Vietnam and it found widely use in the Israeli-Arab wars.
My model depicts such a MIG-17F of the Aegyptian Air Force as it could be seen in the early 80s.
S/n 2115 shows the so called "nile valley camouflage", typical for the late MIG-17s, which consists of four green/ brown/blue shades of colour.
This camo was taken out of Eagle Strike's excellent "Fresco Collection Mig-17 Part1" decal sheet.
The building process of this Hobby Boss kit was nearly trouble free. The sole complaint would be the clear parts, which are made of very thick plastic. That results in a slightly crude look, as you may see on the pictures. The need for filling and sanding accompanies the building process to a certain extent, but that´s nothing to complain about as I think.
If you are interested in the building process and the kit please have a look at the JAM forum:
