HPH's 1/32 scale
Supermarine Walrus

by Julian Seddon

Supermarine Walrus

Hasegawa's 1/32 scale Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6 is available online from Squadron.com

Description

The crowds gathered round the HpH stand at shows testify the attraction of model makers to intense detail !!
Models available to the paying model maker don't come more detailed than this.

There is a fully detailed interior which, when buttoned up, will only be partially visible. If you are going to do it take lots of photos!

The exterior detail is sublime and very restrained.

The build is for an advanced modeller. Firstly, none of the parts are numbered and as a result careful identification of each must take place.

Secondly there is almost no way of fitting any of the parts ahead of final fixing. As dry fitting is the way of avoiding later issues, this is a problem. There are some difficult fit problems as one works through the stages. I had to solve them by making smaller (or larger) parts to enable a flush fit of the fuselage halves.

The lower wing to the fuselage join was a real fiddle as holes had to be drilled to push two brass rods through to support the weight of the wings. I just closed my eyes and drilled, only vaguely aware of the damage that was being done to the interior!

The reward after all is the best looking Walrus that can be built out of the box that I have ever seen.
