For many Eduard is a brand name synonymous with superb quality, and this is certainly the case with the item reviewed here, from the packaging and instructions, to the actual components.
The parts come packed in a clear blister pack with foam cushioning and include printed instructions and a paint mask. The instructions are also downloadable as a PDF from Eduard’s website, to view these please click here.
This set provides replacement nose and main wheels for Academy’s recent 1/72 F-4J kit, but I am sure they would be equally suitable for other brand F-4J kits. I do know that the F-4J’s wheels are larger than the F-4B’s as part of its beefed up undercarriage to cope with higher weights and sink rates, but I do not know enough about Phantoms to know if the F-4J style of wheels were used by some other F-4 variants. I believe that land-based variants probably use lower pressure tyres compared to carrier aircraft however.
The wheels are beautifully cast and have easily removable pouring-blocks. I do not have the Academy F-4J kit to compare Brassin’s wheels with, but it seems most likely that these resin wheels will better any injection moulded ones for detail and overall appearance.
The combination of Eduard’s CAD illustrations, my image of the actual parts, and the downloadable instructions should provide readers with almost all they need to about the contents.
These excellent quality and well-detailed wheels should enhance any brand of F-4J kit in The One True Scale. I happily recommended them.
Thanks to Eduard for the samples and images.
