Xtradecal's 1/72 scale RAF & RN Update 2014-15 Part 1
is available online from Squadron.com
It comes as no surprise that Xtradecal should release some interesting options to follow Sword’s recent release of their new tool Jet Provost T.5 and Strikemaster kits (reviewed here on HyperScale in October last year). Although of course, any markings are equally suitable for use with the still nice old Airfix kit and the more basic offering by Matchbox.
I reviewed Xtradecal’s Jet Provost T.5 sheet here on HyperScale in December last, and anticipated that Xtradecal would follow it up with a Strikemaster foreign operators release; which I am pleased to say is now available.
This sheet subject to a “first look” here offers no less than 19 options that cover a variety of small air forces that favoured the type, with colour schemes ranging from the colourful and eye-catching to the quite subdued.
The Decals
The decals are supplied in Xtradecal’s usual polythene zip-lock bag. The instructions are nicely produced in colour, and clearly indicate markings placement. A brief note regarding the aircraft and its location is given for each subject. A list of Xtracolor paint codes is also provided for the colours required, as well as BS381C or FS-595 codes in almost all cases.
The decals appear superbly printed with excellent colour density and registration. The sheet reviewed here covers 19 options; some of which are quite colourful, and all interesting in my opinion.
The specific subjects covered are:
-
Mk.80, G-AWOS at Farnborough Air Show 1968;
-
Mk.80A, 1120 of the Royal Saudi AIR FORCE, King Faisal Air College, Saudi Arabia 1970;
