Xtradecal's 1/72 scale Junkers Ju 87 B/K/R Stuka decals

This Xtradecal release is focussed on ‘Car Door’ Typhoons, which for me are perhaps the most brutish and appealing variants of this famous fighter. They will prove an ideal compliment to Brengun’s Mk.1a and Ib Car Door Typhoon kits, which will the first choice of most on the basis of availability and price, as well as CMR’s kits or even the quite decent Frog/Novo kit (but I would not suggest wasting these fine decals on the Aviation USK kit!).

The decals are supplied in Xtradecal’s usual A5 polythene zip-lock bag. The instructions are nicely produced in colour, and clearly indicate markings placement. A brief note regarding the aircraft and its station location is given for each subject, plus some modeller’s notes where applicable. Unsurprisingly, a list of Xtracolor paint codes is also provided for the colours required. The decals look to be superbly printed by Microscale Decals with crisp registration and excellent colour density.

The set reviewed here covers eleven options; all of which are quite appealing in my opinion, of which the first listed is the only Mk.Ia with twelve machineguns, the remainder being cannon armed Mk.Ib’s:

• EK176/JK-X, 1 Sqn, RAF Aklington, 1943; and

• JP380/XM-Y, 182 Sqn, RAF Martlesham Heath.

This is a superbly produced set of decals. It provides some interesting and appealing options for Car Door Typhoons.
