Description

Two models of the same aircraft that were built out of the box but received a different approach in the building process.

The Airfix model is highly detailed with engraved panel lines. Engineering and the fit of parts is generally good. Nice touch with the solid spine instead of joining the two fuselage halves. The intake leaders fall in place elegantly. I think that the overall white paint coat adds realism to the model. But, here lies the catch. The white paint enhances the joints and seams. For a streamlined jet aircraft model it means much extra work. The instructions cater for the Blue Steel missile carrier. Yet, parts are provided for open or closed bomb bay if you wish.

The Revell Victor mold shows its age. While it is imperative to hide wide gaps between panel lines, the camoflage pattern does well with the less distinctive flaws. It is possible to build a good looking Revell Victor without investing much time and money to mach with the Airfix kit.

Obviously, the Airfix kit is preferable over the Revell kit thanks to its contemporary and fine design. If you wish to expand your Victor collection then, the Revell kit is a good supplement for nearly a third of the Airfix price tag.
