FirstLook

Xtradecal has added to their 1/48 scale Supermarine Walrus collection with five more decal options in this second instalment. These decals are offered with the forthcoming Airfix Walrus in mind, but they are equally suitable for the Classic Airframes kit.

Three of the subjects are finished primarily in Silver Dope, with one in Yellow with Silver Dope lower surfaces and the fifth option is an Australian Antarctic Establishment Walrus in overall Yellow.

Details are as follows:

  • N19 Irish Air Corps 1939-40, overall silver with orange/white/ green bands on rudder and upper and lower wing tips;

  • 53.S.19 French Flottille 53S, Aeronavale 1945-48, overall silver, blue/white/red rudder stripes;

  • M-0-4 Armada Argentina, on La Argentina late 1940s, overall silver with orange wing top and black bottom of hull, blue/white rudder and elevator stripes;

  • G-AHFN United Whalers Ltd, London based on Fl.k Balaena and winner of the Daily Express Trophy Race at Lympe 1946, overall yellow with silver under wings and race No 2 on rudder;

  • HD-874 R.Australian National Antartic Establishment, HMAS Labuan, Hear Island 1948, overall yellow;

One set each of Aeronavale and RAF-style national markings are included, but you are required to paint the Argentine rudder plus the Irish rudder and wing bands.

Instructions for the decal sheet are in full colour across one folded double-sided A4 and one A5 sheet. Both side plus upper and lower views are provided for all five aircraft. Stencils are not included.

Colour notes are supplied, along with model paint callouts for Xtracolor enamels and Xtracrylix acrylics.

The decals are beautifully printed and feature thin carrier film.

This release offers some interesting and options for modellers with the Classic Airframes kit already in their collection or who are planning to buy the Airfix 1/48 scale Walrus when it is released later this year.

Highly Recommended.
