I’m often surprised when a seemingly common item is mentioned and I smile and nod, not knowing what it is and indeed what it’s designed to do. We all do it and the older you get the more embarrassing it becomes.
Along those lines, a turnbuckle is a stretching screw or bottle screw that is a device for adjusting the tension or length of ropes, cables, tie rods, and other tensioning systems. It normally consists of two threaded eye bolts, one screwed into each end of a small metal frame, one with a left-hand thread and the other with a right-hand thread.
So in a modelling context these items from Gaspatch fill a need and provide that extra bit of detail for anything in 1/32 scale (or 1/35 for that matter) that may require a cable in tension. These I guess were primarily designed for 1/32 scale biplane aircraft but I can see other uses for them as well.
The master is most likely a product of 3D printing and then cleaned up and recast in the standard way. The result is 50 perfect examples of turnbuckles that simply break away from their mounting points and require little or no clean up.
