Hi-Decal line has released two new decal sheets suitable for the new 1/48 scale Bobcat Models Il-28 Beagle.

Today I am covering the second set. This second Hi-Decal Il-28 release covers five subjects. Two of the subjects are the bomber variant, with one Il-28RT Electronic Intelligence version and two of the Il-28U unarmed trainer version. You'll need to check your references for information on converting the kit to the recon or trainer versions. The trainer needs major modification to the nose.

Details of the five aircraft is as follows:

  • IL-28 - Red 2088, 929th Bomber battalion, North Vietnamese Air Force ,in green/aluminium scheme, 1972.

  • Il-28 - NAF 802, Nigerian Air Force,in sand/green/grey-green camouflage during the Biafran Civil War, 1969.

  • Il-28RT - Red 19, Il-28RT Elint version with double belly radome, Hungarian Air Force,1965.

  • Il-28U - Red S-3, Il-28 U Mascot, Polish Navy, Siemirowice AB, 1970

  • Il-28U 193, Il-28U Mascot, East German Air Force, Peenemünde AB,1975 [Il-28T]

Instructions are supplied on one double-sided black and white folded A4 sheet with both side views for the camouflaged aircraft and port side view for the two bare metal subjects.

Small illustrations of the upper views for all five aircraft plus a stencil placement guide, color callouts for Humbrol and Model Master, recommended references and acknowledgements are included.

There is no indication as to who has printed the decals but they are luxuriously glossy and colour saturation looks excellent.

Conclusion

Bobcat's 1/48 scale Il-28T is a great kit but the in-box marking options aren't exactly inspiring.

Hi-Decal has produced a high quality decal sheet in perfect timing and with some welcome variation for the Bobcat kit.

Thanks to Hi-Decal for the review sample
