Advantages: |
Perfect casting; very high level of detail;
one-piece cowl with interior detail. |
Disadvantages: |
Not a disadvantage but some experience required. |
Conclusion: |
ICM's kit engine looks pretty good but it simply cannot compare to the finesse and level of detail offered by AIMS' resin replacement. The one-piece cowl is a blessing too - lining up the kit's plastic four-piece cowl might be a bit of a chellenge! |

AIMS has released a replacment resin engine and cowl set for the new 1/32 scale ICM Gloster Gladiator Mk.I.
AIMS' 1/32 scale Gladiator Mk.I engine comprises 28 parts in light grey resin and illustrated instructions on a single folded A4 sheet.
The jewel in the crown is the single-piece engine cowling. External detail is exquisite, with a combination of raised and recessed surface textures.

The interior is catered for as well, with the collector ring and locating pins for the engine tubes cast in place.

The casting block looks intimidating but I think it should be a fairly fast and easy cleaup using a razor saw - carefully!
The crankcase and central engine is another gorgeous single casting.

The nine cylinders are beautifully detailed too.

Other parts include the tubes, tube hangers, support rods, funnels and exhausts. The exhausts are subtly perforated.
Casting of all the parts is perfect.

Instructions are supplied on a single sheet of A4 paper. Text and drawings look very clear, and assembly should be straightforward.

The instructions note that this set has been scaled up from the SBS Model 1/48 scale Gladiator engine. This can only be a good thing!
ICM's kit engine looks pretty good but it simply cannot compare to the finesse and level of detail offered by AIMS' resin replacement. The one-piece cowl is a blessing too - lining up the kit's plastic four-piece cowl might be a bit of a chellenge!
Thanks to AIMS for the sample
