Advantages: Great way to improve the exterior detail on the Airfix Tempest Mk.V kits (Series 2 coming soon!); fast and easy parts cleanup; simple installation.
Disadvantages: None noted.
Conclusion: This is a lovely 3D printed resin upgrade set that will greatly improve detail inside that big distinctive intake, also providing a better shaped de Havilland spinner plus replacement exhaust with hollowed-out stacks. USD$12.95 sounds like extraordinary value too. Highly Recommended to anyone building the new tool (2022) Hawker Tempest Mk.V.

Barracuda Studios returns to the Hawker Tempest, this time with an upgrade set for the new 2022 Airfix 1/72 scale Hawker Tempest Mk.V.

 

 

Barracuda's 1/72 scale Hawker Tempest V Upgrade set focuses on replacing the intake, spinner and exhausts.

 

 

This grey resin parts are 3d printed. Quality is exemplary. I can't find any striations or other printing artefacts.

 

 

The radiator features resin front and rear faces. The Airfix kit looks pretty good, but Barracuda's crisp honeycomb texture is simply superb.

 

 

The fine circular intake, along with the cuckoo doors, add a level of finesse that the kit parts simply could not achieve in this scale using injection moulded technology.

 

 

The set also replaces the kit's de Havilland spinner, which is much too long, the wrong shape and has incorrectly shaped openings for the propeller blades.

 

 

 

Check out Barracuda Studio's comparison photo below. Note the keyed propeller opening too. This will make a dramatic change to the look of fhe nose.

 

 

The spinner cap and backplate are supplied. You'll still be using the kit-supplied propeller blades.

 

 

The final element of the upgrade set is a set of replacement exhausts.

 

 

These feature subtle weld beads, beefed up outlets and stacks that are hollowed out. Amazing in this scale really.

 

 

Printing quality is superb and cleanup should be pretty straightforward for anyone who has worked with 3d printed resin parts before.

Instructions are offered as a download from Barracuda Studios' website.

Text is accompanied by captioned photographs of the resin parts under construction.

Assembly should be fast and easy.
