Hasegawa 1/48 scale Nakajima Ki-84 Hayate (Frank) |

Here is my Hasegawa 1/48 scale Nakajima Ki-84 Hayate (Frank).

I was browsing the discount table at a local Sydney hobby shop recently when I saw this one. Hasegawa’s 1/48 scale Ki-84 Hayate had been marked down to a measly AUD$37.09 (GBP £18.49 ; USD $23.51).

I didn’t know much about the aeroplane or the model. A quick Scalemates search revealed that the model was originally released a quarter of a century ago in 1999, but at this price I figured I could take a risk. I happily bought it.

Opening the box at home, I was more than pleasantly surprised!
Hasegawa has taken the uncommon approach of using polythene caps to deliver a robust press-fit for the tail wheel assembly, the undercarriage legs, main wheels, petrol cooler, drop tanks and propeller.

Another pleasing inclusion is Fowler flaps that are designed to be posed in the deployed position.

I'll be writing this one up for two big articles in Model Airplane International magazine Issues 235 & 236.
