Halberd Models' conversion of
Tamiya's 1/48 scale P-47D Thunderbolt
XP-72 Ultrabolt
by Brett Green
Just finished this big boy - Halberd models 1/48 scale XP-72 Ultrabolt conversion.

This was an enjoyable project that delivers a unique and impressive result.
Halberd supplies a new fuselage, a choice of propeller units and all the other unique elements of this ultimate Thunderbolt development.

The conversion is designed to use on Tamiya's P-47D Bubbletop. You'll be using Tamiya's cockpit, canopy, wings (after a bit of surgery), undercarriage and details.

I built the model pretty much out of the box(es), although I did add an Eduard SPACE cockpit (which looks fantastic) and Eduard canopy masks (because I am lazy).

If you have built a few resin kits you should not have too much trouble with this one.
I'll be writing up a big article on Halberd Models' 1/48 scale XP-72 Ultrabolt conversion in a future issue of Model Airplane International magazine. Somehow I managed to take 155 photos of this "simple" conversion!
Thanks to Halberd Models for the sample.
