Advantages:

Beautifully detailed; perfectly printed and cast; main engine is printed as a single part; simple cleanup; big improvement over the AM / Academy kit engine.

Disadvantages:

Painting directions would have been nice.

Conclusions:

This beautifully detailed engine will add a new universe of detail to the front end of your Accurate Miniatures or Academy SBD-5 Dauntless kit. Pringing is perfect. Cleanup and assembly will be very straightforward.

S.B.S Model has released a replacement engine for the older but still very nice Accurate Miniatures SBD-5 Dauntless kit. This has more recently reboxed and re-issued by Italeri and Academy. This engine will work with these later issues too.

 

 

The engine front is produced as a single 3d printed part - the core engine, cylinders, push rods and ignition harness.

Unlike the SBD-1/2/3/4 engine reviewed recently, the magnetos are printed as part of the main engine part - even easier to assemble!

 

 

There is no compromise in detail whatsoever. It really has to be seen to be believed.

Printing quality is perfect too.

 

 

The four smaller parts are the propeller shaft, rear engine mount, and two hollow exhaust pipes.

These are all perfectly printed too.

 

 

It appears that all the parts are ready for painting and assembling with no cleanup whatsoever. Amazing really.

 

 

A small one-step instruction sheet is included. Painting directions are not included.

 

 

Conclusion

 

This beautifully detailed engine will add a new universe of detail to the front end of your Accurate Miniatures or Academy SBD-5 Dauntless kits.

Prinning is perfect. Cleanup and assembly will be very straightforward.
