S.B.S Model has released a replacement engine and cowling for the very nice Airfix 1/72 scale Gloster Gladiator.
The engine itself if produced as a single 3d printed part - the core engine, cyliders, push rods and manifolds.
There is no compromise in detail whatsoever though. It really has to be seen to be believed.
The engine is attached to its resin base via the usual narrow strips.
The engine cowling is also a single resin part. This is attached to its casting block via the front of the cowl ring. This is very thin and easy to remove using a razor saw. A little cleanup with a sanding stick and you're ready to go.
I removed the engine and the cowling from their backings and test-fitted them. Cleanup of the engine was easier than I expected. Fit was perfect
Detail is truly exquisite. Casting and printing quality is perfect too.
Also included is a small photo-etched fret.
Smaller resin parts, including the exhaust, appear to be conventionally cast.
Once again, quality is excellent.

Thanks to SBS Model for the samples
